Getting There
If you're flying to meet us, the two closest major airports are Chicago O'Hare (ORD) and Milwaukee General Mitchell Field (MKE).
Chicago O'Hare is about 90 minutes away by car (though traffic can often make that longer depending on time of day). United and American airlines have hubs at Chicago O'Hare, so you're likely to get direct flights on those airlines from any major city in the world.
Milwaukee airport is a little more than 1 hour away by car and traffic is less likely to be a factor. Gen. Mitchell Field is a smaller airport with fewer direct flights, but most airlines service MKE with commuter planes from their hubs. Note that Milwaukee is the only hub for Midwest Airlines, so you may get direct flights with them if they service your home city. Also, Southwest Airlines now flies to Milwaukee.
2010 Peterson Reunion Information
Location
The Lodge at Geneva Ridge is the location of the reunion. It is on Google Maps. The easiest way to map it is to go to State Road 50 & Aspen Road, Lake Geneva, WI. The address is W4240 State Road 50, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 (some mapping sites don't seem to be able to find that address though).
Note that while the address of our resort is Lake Geneva, WI, the resort is actually on the shore of Lake Como, a smaller lake just north of Lake Geneva.
Reservations/Rooms
You can reserve your room(s) now. We have reserved a block of rooms under the name “Peterson Family Reunion.” Including taxes and resort fees, each room is $142.19 per night for double occupancy. The rates will remain available for us until late spring 2010, but please reserve as soon as you confirm your plans to ensure that we don't run out of rooms! All our rooms have wireless internet capability.
To make a reservation, call the resort at 800.225.5558. While they do have an online reservations site, it doesn't handle booking rooms for special groups. Yes, we're special!
Events and Stuff To Do
Here are some of the events we've planned for the reunion so far:
Sunday, July 18th: We're having a BBQ on Sunday night to kick things off. RSVP to Dan Norris at dannorris@dannorris.com if you plan to attend so we can ensure we have an accurate head count.
Tuesday, July 20th: It’s time for the Peterson Banquet and Talent Show! Start putting your talent and/or team together now to show off your talent to the family. Because of the high cost of the banquet at the resort, we have decided to switch venues to Fischer’s, a short drive away and right on Lake Geneva. The buffet that night will be set up for two hours between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. with the Talent Show immediately following. The new, lower price, including tax and gratuity, is $25. Children 3 -10 are $7. Children under 3 eat free. If your child would prefer a more standard kid’s meal (like grilled cheese) please let me know. Click here for the full buffet menu. Our room will have a cash bar with two pool tables. Get there early to shoot pool and swap your used books!
We need to know if you will be attending the banquet, even if you confirmed for the other one, so RSVP by July 6th to Dan Norris (dannorris@dannorris.com). Come one, come all!
Book exchange: Bring your old and slightly used books for exchange with the family. All books welcome, from baby books to romance novels.
Golf: there are three (3) courses in the area – Hawks View Golf Club, George Williams College Golf Course, and Geneva National Golf Course. We need an idea of how many people would like to go and on which days. We’ll then make some calls for best tee times and course availability. We haven't gathered prices yet, but Geneva National will definitely be the most expensive. RSVP with your preferred days to Dan Norris (dannorris@dannorris.com) so we can start arranging the golf groups and times.
Sand Volleyball: Courts available at the resort at no charge.
Swimming: There are both indoor and outdoor pools. Refreshments available poolside. Unfortunately, we can't bring our own refreshments poolside.
Boating: There are wave runner rentals available at the resort's marina and other rentals available at nearby marinas. Lake Geneva is a short car ride away and offers additional water sports opportunities.
Spa: The resort has a spa onsite as well.
Fishing: The resort can book fishing excursions with guides.
Family Trees
Below are two of the family tree files collected from previous reunions. If you have or know of updated versions of these files, please send them to me and I will have them posted here.
Files are in .pdf format. You will need Adobe Reader to view them.
